Need a Place to Park Your Wine? Meet the Custom Wine Cellar Garage Conversion.
Garages have become one of the most popular spaces for custom wine cellars for good reason — there are a lot of pros hiding in this under-utilized space. Separate from the rest of your home, a custom wine cellar garage conversion allows you the choice of staying with your established interior style or departing for a completely different look and feel. It also gives you significant bottle storage without losing closet space or guest rooms. If you still need storage space, you can also easily convert a portion of your garage — like a single wall — while leaving ample storage room for tools, bicycles, paddleboards, or surfboards. (We just opened a San Diego office, and we’re eagerly awaiting our first Surf Shack/Wine Cellar request!)
Ample wine storage, without sacrificing square feet
Converting your garage to a wine cellar provides generous space to display and protect your wine collection. Rather than squeezing your bottle storage into your home, you can take over your garage and showcase your wine without giving up any of your home square footage.
garage transformed into statement wine cellar
We recently completed this Pacific Northwest modern, rustic custom wine cellar garage conversion for a client on Sauvie Island in Portland, Oregon. The industrial-style polished cement floors may have been difficult to incorporate in an in-home cellar, but they were the perfect understated finish to allow the wood elements of this garage conversion to shine. The reclaimed lumber that frames the floor-to-ceiling shelving display and the contrasting, custom, hand-forged steel hardware create a modern, rustic feel that is distinctly Pacific Northwest. Without the constraints of integrating into an existing interior style, custom wine cellar garage conversions can become bold design statements on their own. Our client loved this space so much, he moved his home office to the converted garage, and now the wine wall is an enviable backdrop for online meetings.
We designed this showcase-shelving to display the client’s coveted whiskey collection between the bottle racks.
Interested in converting Your own garage to a custom wine cellar?
We work with clients across the U.S. All of our projects begin with a free consultation and are:
Fully customizable for your space and collection
Built with a universal racking system
Handcrafted with wood and high-quality finishes sourced in the Northwest
Cooled with professional grade refrigeration
The Perfect Place for your wine collection, with storage to spare
If wine isn’t your only hobby, don’t despair. If you need tool storage or space for your recreational equipment, you can designate just a part of your garage — like a single wall — to your custom wine cellar, leaving space for tools and gear.
Complementary built-in, or freestanding storage keeps the look high end and seamless. In our Sauvie Island custom wine cellar garage conversion, the client’s industrial tool storage chest adds to the rustic, modern style and keeps their tools handy. (We can’t be held responsible if that benchtop gets used as a bar top.)
Other Storage Spaces: Basement Wine Cellars & Under-the-Stairs Wine Cellars
While not all homes have basements, they are also a natural choice for converting to a custom wine cellar. If you’re not sure about losing your garage space and are also lucky enough to have a basement, it’s easy to turn it into a stylish wine cellar or wine cave with lighting, custom shelves, and racking for a couple hundred bottles to a couple thousand.
Don’t have a basement? The space under your stairs is another under-utilized storage space that can be converted to a stunning custom wine cellar. Although the space underneath is usually awkwardly accessible at best, stairs are usually located in high traffic areas, allowing an under stairs wine cellar to become a dramatic focal point in your home. To see how an under stairs wine cellar can both seamlessly integrate into and elevate your home’s style, check out this historic farmhouse under the stair wine cellar we did in Portland, Oregon.
